Why does the blog look different?
After all these years, the template needed to be updated for mobile devices.
Why aren't the links working?
Cut and paste the below address into your finder window--this will let you re-enter the blog through a better portal and the links should work.
How do you draw the illustrations?
For the line drawings, I use Adobe Illustrator which is a vector drawing program. I also use Illustrator to edit, colorize and label photographs, as well as to export and format all illustrations to jpegs. For line-drawings, use the old-school tools: the pen, mostly, and draw freehand using a mouse. Drawing with a mouse is like drawing with a bar of soap, I know, but when I started tablets cost too much and... old dogs and new tricks and all that.
How long do the illustrations take?
Most take several hours, some take a lot more. This one took the longest of all--several days of constant work. The hard part is making sure each stitch is "anatomically correct." It gets pretty complicated where stitches overlay, which is why the linked illustration took so long.
Do you create illustrations for hire?
I used to, but no longer. It takes too long to do each illustration and the potential for miscommunication is too great. Sad, but there it is.
Who the heck are you? Why don't you use your real name?
Back in November 2006, when this blog started, I had a professional day job and small children. Anonymity was my best bet. That choice led to my "knitting name" being TECHknitter or TK. By now, if I did use my real name, no one would have any idea who I even was. Plus, I like a little mystery, you know?
Are you ever going to write a book?
I have tried. And tried. And tried some more. So the answer is no. Or maybe the answer is yes. Obviously, the real answer is that I have no idea. In the meanwhile, please consider TECHknitting blog to BE a sort of an online e-book, easily accessed through this index.
Where do your ideas come from?
Beats me. I wake up in the middle of the night and--poof--there it is--a knitting idea. They used to wake me up, hammering to get out of my head. Now, I have learned I have to ignore many of them, or I'd never get ANYTHING done...
